Ever have one of those days? You’re running late, you spill your coffee, you forget your presentation notes.. some days it feels like you just can’t win.

When we’re under stress, it’s easy to forget that a state of inner peace is only a breath, a thought, or a moment away.  In an instant, you can turn your entire day around simply by redirecting your energy. So how can you go from wanting to pull your hair out to feeling calm, cool, and collected in as little as 1 minute?

Breathe.
Conscious breathing is one of the easiest and quickest ways to create a radical shift in your energy. It helps you slow down, get out of your head, and reels your focus back to the present. Next time you’re feeling overwhelmed, anxious or stressed, try this simple Kundalini breathing technique.

Sit crossed legged on the floor with your hands in Gyan mudra, thumb and pointer finger pressing together. Breathe in through your nose for 8 strokes and out your nose for 1 long stroke. If you’re new to breathwork and 8 strokes feels like a little much, decrease the inhale to 4 strokes. Repeat this cycle of breath for one minute or until you start to feel a shift in your energy (it won’t take long to feel relief!).

Note: This can also be done in any seated or standing position, so if you’re on a bus, plane, office chair, at dinner with your in-laws, you can still practice this breath. ‘Breathe in the way you want to feel.’ -Jordan Bach, If you want to feel calm, cool and collected, breathe slow and breathe deep.

Adopt an attitude of gratitude.
When we’re having a bad day or we’re waist deep in stress, it’s easy to look past all the good in our lives, but taking a moment to appreciate what we have creates an instant mood boost. Next time you’re feeling stressed, make a list of at least 3 things you are grateful for in that moment (be specific!). If it feels good, list more. You’ll notice that the second you shift your thoughts from chaos to gratitude, you feel a whole lot better.

Laugh.
We often hear that laughter is the best medicine, laughter is also the most important spiritual tool and the perfect remedy for a bad mood. It’s often the little things that trigger us so calling it out for what it is, totally ridiculous, and laughing about it can help lessen your frustrations. Even just cracking a smile has been shown to reduce stress (and laughing is like smiling on crack). So call your mom, boyfriend, bestie, whoever, and call out what’s stressing you — laugh at it (it’s never really that bad). Smile, laugh, and don’t take life too seriously, it was never intended to be.
