Some of us absolutely love being in the kitchen creating, crafting, and concocting home cooked meals (props to you!). Others of us, not-so-much. If home cooking makes you feel stressed, anxious and overwhelmed, you’re in luck. Today we’re sharing our top 5 tips to help you have more FUN in the kitchen, get you excited about home cooking, and fall in LOVE with your food (cause it's meant to be enjoyed).

Confession: I didn't start cooking for myself until I was in college and actually had to. And even then my cooking skills didn’t extend beyond spreading coconut oil on an english muffin, making a batch of quinoa, and throwing a frozen Annie’s pizza in the oven. Fast forward to now, thankfully my cooking skills have improved quite a bit. What’s changed since my college years? For one, I now find joy in cooking for myself and choosing to honor and fuel my body with the most nutritious and delicious foods possible. And if I can can find the fun in home cooking, I know YOU can too.
HAVE FUN IN THE KITCHEN — 5 TIPS TO HELP YOU FALL IN LOVE WITH HOME COOKING
1. Celebrate your food.
Make a celebration out of your meal. Light a candle, chew slowly, eat mindfully, and enjoy every bite. Acknowledge and appreciate the work you put into making a nourishing meal for yourself. Feeding your body high vibe foods is one of the greatest acts of self-love. Don’t ever let yourself, or your food be under appreciated.
2. Eat your greens (and your reds, purples, yellows, etc.)
Eating healthy home cooked meals doesn’t have to be boring. Liven up any dish by adding color to your plate. The greater variety of colors means the greater variety of nutrients you’re ingesting (plus—your dinner will be totally instagram worthy).
Red - Apples, cherries, pomegranates, peppers, watermelon
Orange - Papaya, peaches, cantaloupe, pumpkin, squash, carrots
Yellow - Lemons, pineapple, summer squash
Green - Leafy greens, grapes, cucumbers, celery, zucchini, peas
Blue - Blueberries
Purple - Eggplant, grapes, figs, blackberries
White - Cauliflower, garlic, jicama, onions, parsnips, quinoa
Black - Wild rice, chia seeds
On that note, keep it simple. There is no need to fit every single ingredient on your plate all at once (your tastebuds & digestive system will thank you).
3. Make something new.
Sometimes we get stuck in a cooking rut and end up making the same three meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, over, and over, and over. No wonder we get bored! Instead of the same old try something totally new. Hop onto your favorite food blog or check out our pinterest page for tons of recipe inspo and choose a dish you’ve never made before.
4. Create a night of it.
Invite a few friends over to make a dinner together, host a potluck, or have date night in your kitchen and make a mouthwatering dessert with your man (it might get you girlfriend of the year award).
