In school we were always known to go through at least 3 Five Star multi-subjects per class and take down hundreds of pages of notes. Besides the fact that we’re no longer in school and have moved onto more “sophisticated” notebooks like the gorgeously chic, much too expensive ones from Anthropologie, things really haven’t changed—we still write everything down.

Today’s challenge: Cultivate your inner Hemingway with a 10-minute free write.

Writing stimulates the right-side of the brain, which is responsible for creativity, imagery, music awareness, imagination, and intuition. The left-brain, which is responsible for science and math, logic, language, analytic thought, numbers, etc., takes a back seat when you put pen to paper and let your emotions and thoughts flow. If you find it difficult to write on cue, try using one of the following prompts to get your creative juices flowing.

Free write prompts:

1. You come home from work to find a package on your front steps. You think it’s amazon, but no, it’s $20 million and a note that says ‘take tomorrow off’. Write the story that follows.

2. You’re about to give a 18-minute Ted Talk in front of an audience of 20,000 people... what do you say?

3. You happen to figure out the whole time travel phenomenon and you’re able to meet your __ year old self for dinner. What do you tell them?
