Too much to do, too many requests, too many demands. All because there were too many ‘yeses’ to questions that should have been no’s from the start. Feeling overwhelmed? Step up your no-game.
Overwhelm is self-generated, self-sustained and totally self-sabotaging, so why do we consistently put ourselves in the position to feel overwhelmed?
Most of us say yes to things before actually thinking through exactly what we’re in for or what we’re committing to. Especially as an entrepreneur, it’s so easy to jump on new opportunities because we think we should. And maybe it sounds like a great opportunity at first glance, but when you really think about it, is it what you want? Is it fully and completely aligned with you and your vision? Is that how you really want to be spending your time?
Last week, when we found ourselves in a space of self-inflicted overwhelm and just way too much, we made the conscious and guilt-free decision to pull back, reshuffle commitments, declutter our schedules and most importantly, say no.
In that instant, a weight was literally lifted from our shoulders.
The next time an opportunity presents itself, before you say yes, pause, feel it, and know that it’s okay to say no.
It’s freeing, liberating, and will ultimately bring forth more of the opportunities you should be saying yes to.
The easiest way to avoid feeling overwhelmed — saying no.
Have you ever found yourself overwhelmed because you said yes to something you should have said no to? We’d love to hear! Share your story in the comments below.
