As you know, we here at Urban Alchemy are huge fans of anything and everything au naturel. So when we couldn’t find a deodorant that fit our needs, vegan, chemical-free, smelled like a field of flowers, and actually worked, we decided to make one ourselves—and it's absolutely amazing!
This DIY deodorant is super simple, eco-friendly, inexpensive and can be made in less than 5 minutes. All of the ingredients can be commonly found in your kitchen. And although I’m not sure why you’d want to, this deodorant is even good enough to eat! Not that we recommend chowing down on your deodorant before you apply it, but you totally could;). Anything you put on your body gets directly absorbed into your bloodstream through your skin, so this stuff gets an A+ in our book!
What you need: coconut oil, arrowroot flour, baking soda, and an essential oil of your choosing.
3 tbs Coconut Oil - provides antibacterial and antimicrobial properties, and acts as a moisturizer
2 tbs Arrowroot Starch - natural starch that helps with the consistency of the deodorant
2 tbs Baking Soda - Antibacterial and helps absorb yo' stank
10-15 drops Essential Oil - Totally optional but we highly recommend a few drops. We love using sweet orange because citrus is energizing.
**Note: If you have sensitive skin you might want to try decreasing the amount of baking soda and substitute more arrowroot flour, as it may be irritating to some.
Now onto the How To:
1. In a small bowl mix together the arrowroot flour and baking soda.
2. Add in the coconut oil and combine until all the flour and baking soda is mixed. It should turn into a smooth consistency, similar to lip balm.
3. Once combined, add in the essential oil and mix well.
4. Apply as needed.
5. Smell yummy.
Hope you love it as much as we do! Let us know if it works for you by leaving a comment below!
PS. A product this amazing shouldn't be kept a secret, so share this post with all your friends!
